All members are required to subscribe to this Code of Ethics

A. Purpose:

The purpose of this Code of Ethics is to maintain at all times a standard of excellence in the ownership, breeding, sales, showing and sportsmanship of all Sloughis.

B. Ownership:

The owner shall maintain the best possible standards of canine nutrition, health, exercise, cleanliness and veterinary care, including mental health, such as affectionate attention, contact with people and exposure to the outside world.

C. Registration:
The owner shall breed only purebred Sloughis who are eligible for registration with the UKC. The owner shall keep accurate records of breeding and pedigrees.

D. Breeding:

The breeder shall:

1. Breed only with the intention of maintaining and improving the breed, and of finding suitable homes for the puppies.
2. Learn and understand the UKC standard for the breed and breed with the intention of conforming to the UKC standard.
3. Choose only healthy Sloughis of good temperament and qualities, free of genetic diseases, and registered in accordance with the terms of this Code of Ethics.
4. Not breed any male or female until they are mentally mature. Not breed bitches before their second heat and not more than once per year. Maintain high standards of health and care, and guarantee the health of the puppies at the time of sale. Be knowledgeable about proper pre-natal and post-natal care and nutrition
It is strongly recommended not to breed a bitch after being 8 years of age (except in meritorious circumstances and when the bitch is in excellent health) and to not produce more than three litters from a single bitch in her lifetime.
5. Refuse to breed a stud dog or brood bitch to any dog which is inferior temperamentally or physically, and explain the reasons to the owner.
6. Avoid mating Sloughis which are highly inbred and select very carefully Sloughis to be linebred.
7. Parents and puppies shall be vaccinated and kept free of parasites as required supra, in paragraph B.
8. The breeder shall not breed any Sloughi without knowing the PRA status of both Sloughis bred. The breeder shall not under any circumstance breed PRA affected or carrier Sloughis to other PRA affected or carrier Sloughis.

E. Sales:

The owner/breeder shall:
1. Not sell or consign adults or puppies to pet shops or other commercial dealers.
2. Require puppy purchasers to spay or neuter all pets which, for any reason, do not qualify for reproduction.
3. Honestly evaluate for the prospective buyer the quality of the Sloughi to be sold.
4. Not release puppies to new homes before they are 8 weeks of age and properly weaned. Furnish pedigrees, certificates of registration, written sale contract with all terms and guarantees specifically defined, inoculation and parasite control record, details of feeding and care. Be willing to take back the Sloughi at any age, if not suitable for the new owner, or if the dog is in unsuitable circumstances.
5. Screen all prospective buyers to assure that puppies will have a responsible and loving home.
6. Follow up on puppies and dogs after the sale, to insure their continued care and to encourage owners to become involved in purebred activities.

F. Advertising:

Advertise honestly, in substance and implication.

G. Sportsmanship:

The owner/breeder should always conduct himself/herself in a manner which will reflect credit upon himself/herself and his/her Sloughi, the UKC, and the sport of purebred dogs, regardless of location and/or circumstance.
